ICYMI: Behind Closed Doors, Mike Coffman Pivots to the Right of Donald Trump on Immigration
Aurora – The Washington Post reported today that Rep. Mike Coffman, who has positioned himself as a moderate on immigration issues, told supporters that President Trump has “probably…a more generous plan for DACA than I would [propose].”
Coffman also told supporters at the closed-door event that it’s time for “zero tolerance” at the border – the same philosophy that led to President Trump’s family separation policy.
Jason has called for immediate passage of the DREAM Act, along with an end to the zero tolerance policies that have ripped families apart at the southern border.
“Behind closed doors, Mike Coffman revealed who he really is: a fraud. In 2016 he said he’d stand up to Donald Trump, and on countless other occasions he’s painted himself as a compassionate conservative on immigration. But this demonstrates clearly that when he thinks no one but his base is listening, he believes Donald Trump is too generous on DACA; he believes the zero tolerance policy that rips children away from their families is correct; and he believes that Washington gridlock on immigration reform is the best case scenario,” said Jason Crow.
