Jason Crow Stands With Immigrant Activists, Labor, and Latin American Community to Demand Permanent Fix to Family Separation Crisis
Aurora, CO – First-time candidate Jason Crow today joined immigrant rights activists, labor representatives, and local elected officials to protest the Trump administration’s family separation atrocity and hold Rep. Mike Coffman accountable for his inaction. The protest was held outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Colorado’s 6th Congressional District.
Attendees included Aurora City Councilwomen Allison Hiltz and Nicole Johnston, Laborers International Union of North America Local 720, Painters District Council 12, and the National Latino Evangelical Coalition, among other members of the local Latin American community.
Protestors at the event took Coffman to task for his repeated unwillingness to lead on this issue. Coffman’s 95% pro-Trump voting record includes a vote for President Trump’s expensive and ineffective border wall. He has publicly praised Trump’s immigration policies, and endorsed the ‘zero-tolerance’ approach that created the family separation atrocity at our southern border.
“Mike Coffman had the power to walk into Paul Ryan’s office and demand a clean bill that legally prevents President Trump from executing this horrific policy – and refuse to leave until he gets it. Instead, he put out statements,” said Crow. “We need leaders who are willing to fight for the people they were elected to represent, and take action to end family separation and protect DREAMers. The heart of our country is at stake.”
