Veterans, Advocates Demand Mike Coffman Call for Removal of Shameful Attack Ad

Aurora – Colorado veterans and veterans advocates convened outside of Rep. Mike Coffman’s office today to demand Coffman call for the removal of an attack ad, made on his behalf by a Washington-based Super PAC, that lies about Jason Crow’s record of serving veterans at home.

The ad, which claims Jason Crow “failed veterans,” shamefully distorts Jason’s record of service to veterans in this community. Jason has dedicated thousands of hours to pro-bono causes on issues like veterans’ substance abuse issues, and was named the volunteer lawyer of the year for his efforts. He also mentored veterans himself as they made the transition back to civilian life, and co-wrote the white paper that attracted federal funding for the VA Medical Center in Aurora.

“Jason’s record on veterans issues speaks for itself,” said Iraq War veteran Travis Weiner. “Hundreds and hundreds of pro bono hours given, and extensive work and involvement on the state level. A misleading and despicable attack ad doesn’t change that simple reality.”

Korean War veteran and former United Veterans Committee of Colorado chairman Marvin L. Meyers reflected on years of working with Jason, saying “We got a chance to talk about veterans’ needs and circumstances, and Jason was very receptive, and he said that he would do everything he could. And as a veteran, he lived up to that. We are very proud of the relationship that we’ve had with Jason. He’s done a marvelous job.”

“I served because I love this country and I love the state of Colorado. And I will do everything to convince everybody that can hear my voice to write and call those people and let them know: get that ad out. It’s just not fair to any [veteran] who paid that price,” said Vietnam War veteran, former Army Ranger, and Silver Star recipient Artie Guerrero.
